Arun Veerappan/ Managing Director and Senior Technology Analyst

Arun, a managing director and senior technology analyst, joined Robertson Stephens in 1995 and focuses on communications and semiconductor device companies. His views on the industry have been and continue to be featured in major news publications, business periodicals and trade journals. Arun was educated at the Madras Christian College in India and has earned degrees in engineering and economics from Tulane University.


Faraj Aalaei (CEO &Co-Founder of Centillium communications)

Faraj Aalaei is Chief Executive Officer and one of co-founders of Centillium communications. Aalaei has more than 19 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. Prior to co-founding Centillium, Mr. Aalaei was the Director of Access Products at Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc., a designer and manufacturer of fiber-optic transmission and broadband switching platforms, from October 1993 to March 1997. Mr. Aalaei also designed advanced telecommunications products at AT&T Bell Laboratories, a telecommunications company, from May 1985 to October 1993. Mr. Aalaei received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts and an M.B.A. from the University of New Hampshire.


David Tahmassebi, President & Chief Executive Officer

David Tahmassebi brings over a decade of experience in Marketing and Sales of semiconductor products to Resonext in his role as President, CEO and co-founder. Prior to founding Resonext, David managed the Consumer Business Unit of VLSI Technology, a leading technology provider purchased by Philips Semiconductor. At VLSI, David led efforts to expand the sales of the company's source and channel decoding products. Prior to joining VLSI, David served as the Director of Business Development of the commercial divisions of Stanford Telecom, a leading telecommunications technology company. David was instrumental in forming the company's first commercial division and his leadership continued as the commercial operations grew to become four divisions, and ultimately Stanford Telecom's most valuable group. The businesses consisted of ASIC, Satcom, CATV and Wireless divisions, that focused on wireless LAN and Cable Modem channel decoding Integrated Circuits (ICs.David received his Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland in 1987.

Ali Far, Galleon Group , Analyst

Ali Far is currently at Galleon, a $5 billion technology investment firm, responsible for analysis of the Semiconductor and Storage Area Networking industries and he manages a technology fund. Prior to Galleon, Ali was the Vice President and Senior Semiconductor Equity Analyst at Prudential Securities. He served as Vice President of Engineering and New Product Development at Micro Chip (formerly TelCom) that produced components for PC and communication markets. Prior to TelCom he was Director of Marketing and IC Design at Aureal Semiconductor (formerly MVT), a maker of multimedia chips. Mr. Far was the Strategic Marketing and Design Engineering Manager at Exar (formerly MPS) that produced chips for imaging, video, and communications applications. Ali was an analog design engineer at Analog Devices (formerly PMI) when he started his career in 1983.

Ali received his Juris Doctor, MBA, and MSEE from Santa Clara University and his BSEE & CS from UC Berkeley.

Ali has 15 patents in the areas of analog and mixed signal IC design.

Mehran Musai, Vice President, Marketing - Advanced Fibre Communications

Mehran Musai joined Advanced Fibre Communications in January 2001, bringing to his position more than 16 years of telecom equipment design, OSS software development, and sales and marketing experience. Prior to joining AFC, Mr. Musai held senior management and marketing positions at Actelis Networks, Clear Communications, Tellabs and Intel. During his tenure at Clear Communications, he held the position of Chief Technical Officer and served on a Silicon Valley advisory board for next-generation broadband consulting firms. Mr. Musai received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin.


Kambiz Houshmand, Cisco systems VP /GM DSL Business Unit

Kambiz Hooshmand has twenty years of experience in the telecommunications space including core ATM switches, edge access devices and services, and voice infrastructure products. Kambiz is currently a VP/General Manager with Cisco Systems. Previously, Kambiz was with StrataCom, a leader in frame relay and ATM systems, which was eventually acquired for $4.5 Billion by Cisco Systems. Kambiz helped build some of the world's largest ATM & Frame Relay networks that delivered, for the first time in data communications, truly carrier class 99.999% availability.


Paul Thanos, Senior International Trade specialist of Department of commerce

Paul J. Thanos is the Senior International Trade Specialist at the Department of Commerce/International Trade Administration in Washington DC.
He has worked in the Office of the Middle East since July 1992 and concentrates on trade and investment policy issues affecting the United States and countries of the Middle East region. Mr. Thanos has detailed knowledge of U.S. trade policy including provisions under existing trade legislation and administrative regulations, trade and tariff policies related to the Middle East, Gulf States, and North Africa. His specific focus includes analyzing U.S. trade policies and agreements with the countries of Israel, Egypt, Jordan, the West Bank/Gaza, and Iran.


Richard J. Gallivan, Managing Director,Salomon Smith Barney

Richard Gallivan is a Managing Director in the Technology Investment Banking Group of Salomon Smith Barney in Palo Alto, CA. Mr. Gallivan has been with Salomon Smith Barney for over six years and is responsible for the firm's semiconductor industry corporate finance coverage. Mr. Gallivan's investment banking experience includes merger, acquisition and divestiture advisory transactions, and public and private equity, equity-linked, high yield and investment grade debt financing. Mr. Gallivan has advised technology clients including Advanced Micro Devices, Analog Devices, Agere Systems, Transmeta, Infineon, Microtune, Pixelworks, Veeco Instruments, Giga/NKT Holdings, ON Semiconductor, Multilink, Centillium Communications, Silicon Labs, Applied Micro Circuits, Galileo Technology, Fairchild Semiconductor, Intersil, Creo Products, Texas Instruments, Cirrus Logic, and Credence Systems.

Prior to joining Salomon Smith Barney, Mr. Gallivan spent four years as a member of the Investment Banking Group at Oppenheimer & Co., Inc., in New York. Mr. Gallivan also worked for a public health organization as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Zaire for over two years. Mr. Gallivan received a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley and a M.S. with Honors from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.

Kamran Elahian (Venture Capitalist,Managing Principal of Global Catalyst Partners)

Kamran Ehahian; Iranian venture capitalist is a man of many accomplishments - In 1975, at the age of twenty, he had earned both a BS in Computer Science and a BS in Mathematics from the University of Utah Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1977, he earned a Master of Engineering in Computer Graphics from the University of Utah, SLC. In 1978, he worked for Hewlett Packard designing automation software. Then Elahian began co-founding companies: In 1981, CAE Systems, Inc (sold to Tektronix Corp
for over $75 million within 3 years of founding).

In 1984, Cirrus Logic, Inc (revenue grew to over $1 billion within 10 years); in 1989, Momenta Corp (failed within 3 years but led to other companies and to personal growth); in 1993, NeoMagic Corp (achieved IPO valuation of over $300 million within 4 years); in 1996, Planetweb, Inc; in 1997 and Global Catalyst Partners. Kamran Elahian is also one of co-founders and has served as Chairman of the Board of Centillium Communications since they started operations in April 1997.

He co-founded 3 more companies - Actelis Networks, cahoots.com, Greenfield Networks and KangarooNet.

Jorge A. del Calvo | Partner Pillsbury Winthrop LLP


Jorge A. del Calvo focuses on the representation of technology companies in venture capital and securities transactions, including public offerings, private placements, mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures. He joined the firm in 1982 and was made a partner in 1990. Mr. del Calvo currently serves as co-chair of the firm's Silicon Valley Business Group.

During his career, Mr. del Calvo has been involved in hundreds of private and public offerings of equity securities, including initial public offerings for Magma Design Automation, Inc., WebEx, Inc., Support.com, Tvia, Inc., Alliance Fiber Optics Products, Inc., Critical Path, Inc., Network Solutions, Inc., Netcom On-Line Communication Services, Inc., SONICblue Incorporated, Pardigm, Inc., and NexGen, Inc. In 2000, he represented Network Solutions in its $2,200,000,000 secondary public offering, which was the largest Internet secondary public equity offering in history.

His representation of investment bankers includes work with such clients as Goldman Sachs & Co., Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown, Lehman Brothers Inc. and Needham & Company, Inc. on a number of public offerings, private placements, spinoffs and other transactions. He has also been involved in merger and acquisition transactions, representing both sellers and purchasers.
Representative transactions include NexGen in its merger with AMD; Yago in its merger with Cabletron; Acclaim Communication in its merger with Level One; and NETCOM in its merger with ICG.

Mr. del Calvo is also on the board of directors of Riverstone Networks (RSTN), Pumpkin Networks, Berkeley Process Control and Deepa Textiles.

Mr. del Calvo is a Coordinating Editor of the Venture Capital and Public Offering Negotiation, a two-volume treatise for lawyers. He has also been a Visiting Lecturer at Stanford Law School where he has taught several corporate law courses and also has taught several Continuing Education for the Bar (CEB) courses.

Hassan Parsa (General Partner, Lucent Venture Partners LLC,)

Hassan Parsa has more than 15 years of business and technical experience in the field of communications and networking. As a system engineer at Bell Laboratories, Mr. Parsa designed and developed digital cross-connect systems and performed transport network design, planning and analysis. In Lucent Technologies, he held various business development and product management positions. Prior to joining LVP, Mr. Parsa was Business Development Director in the Mergers and Acquisitions group and was responsible for making strategic minority investments.

Lip-Bu Tan, Chairman of Walden International

Mr. Lip-Bu Tan is the Founder and Chairman of Walden International, a global venture capital firm managing over US$2 billion in venture capital funds. Mr. Tan has been an active venture capitalist in the US and Asia since 1980s and has been a lead investor and/or a board member in more than 50 companies, mostly in the telecommunication, semiconductor/components and enterprise software related industries.

Mr. Tan has introduced and pioneered the U.S. venture capital investment concept in Asia in the mid 1980s and contributed towards the promotion of early stage technology venture capital investment in the Asia-Pacific region. In the past decade, he has transformed Walden International into a global venture capital firm with a strong local presence in the U.S. and throughout Asia (including China/Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, India and the Philippines), and established strategic partnership with key business and government enterprises worldwide.

Under Mr. Tan's leadership, Walden International has invested in a broad range of technology related enterprises.
