SANDY CLOSE (executive director, Bay Area Institute/Pacific News Service)

  • Moved to Hong Kong after her BA from Berkeley in 1964, where she worked as the China editor for the Far Eastern Economic Review.
  • She founded The Flatlands newspaper, a raw voice of the inner city communities of Oakland, Ca.

  • Yousef B. Javadi was named president of Sprint International in April 2001.
  • As President, he has the responsibility of guiding the build-out of Sprint's global Internet backbone throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas, extending IP services to approximately 80 percent of the world's Internet market by 2003.
  • Prior to Sprint, Javadi served as chief operating officer of PRIMUS Telecommunications North America, a global network provider, where he contributed to the growth of PRIMUS's annual revenue from $1 million to $1.2 billion in four years.

Mehrdad Nikoonahad.Ph.D, (VP of Technology, KLA Tencor Corporation)

  • He was the Principal Investigator on a number of R&D projects for NASA and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
  • He proposed and developed a platform for a high-speed laser-based wafer inspection system, which was the basis for KLA-Tencor's flagship product.
